We took the train from Dublin and got early afternoon tickets without pre booking..this was Fri Sept 6..another tip is to consider using the Hop On bus from city hall which will take you to the exhibit and you can also see the rest of the city afterwards..cost effective once you consider taxi fares.

To be honest, in my opinion, they are much too young for it. I did not see any children that age out of hundreds of visitors. The tour is very detailed, takes at least two hours to do properly (you could spend 3-4 hours easily) and is definitely aimed at adults. I saw just two children who were both about ten and were clearly distressed with boredom. It's full of info to read which they won't be able to, also you will not be able to absorb the tour fully yourselves while minding two such small children. Just my opinion obviously, but I don't want to be anything other than honest with you. I think you would need a baby minder and then do the tour yourselves.
