Georgia’s state House wants to spend more on Hurricane Helene relief and is cutting some of Gov. Brian Kemp’s prison and construction spending proposals to do so.

State lawmakers are preparing to spend an additional $500 million in relief for western North Carolina, laying the groundwork for their fourth aid package since Hurricane Helene and the first of 2025.

Governor Josh Stein says the one billion dollars he’s requesting for continued recovery in Western North Carolina is just the beginning and he will be asking for more. But on Tuesday, three Republican Representatives filed a bill to spend $500 million on relief.
