U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday called an offer by El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele to house dangerous criminals from the United States in his country's jails "very generous" and said the Trump administration would have to study it.

Current laws “would categorically preclude most U.S. citizens and residents from serving their sentence in El Salvador,” a former U.S. attorney said.

Rubio has left El Salvador with an agreement to accept deportees from the U.S. of any nationality, including Americans
