The Oklahoma State Board of Education voted Tuesday to approve a proposal requiring parents to report their immigration or citizenship status when enrolling their children in school.

The proposed rules, which Oklahoma’s education board was set to vote on Tuesday, are in the early stages and would still need approval from lawmakers and the governor to take effect.

Oklahoma may require parents to report their immigration status when enrolling children in schools. “We're not going to allow sanctuary schools here in Oklahoma,” Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters told CNN’s Brianna Keilar on Tuesday afternoon.

The rule would not block undocumented students from enrolling, but it would supply the Trump administration with information to aid immigration enforcement.
