All you need to do is download SteamOS, move it (zipped) to a FAT32 formatted USB drive (Or FAT32 Partition on your USB drive), unzip, wait for completion, delete the old SteamOS.zip and reboot your PC to install, preferably without Secure Boot as it screws things up the old Debian 8 "Jessie" that SteamOS is based on.

Jan 19, 2024 · It lets you know to go elsewhere for the Steam Deck recovery image. But then when it presents you with a link that it claims should be SteamOS.zip, the link is actually to the Steam Deck version and downloads steamdeck-repair-20231127.10-3.5.7.img.bz2. There's an ongoing project to bring SteamOS 3 Holo to the PC as a generic install.

SteamOS 3 has not been officially released for other, non-Steam Deck, hardware yet. If you want SteamOS 3 for regular PC you have 4 unofficial options:

SteamOS version 3 'holo', as used on the Steam Deck, is a separate codebase based on Arch Linux packages. An installer for use on generic PC hardware is planned but not currently available.
